a safe, clean sanctuary for rescued dogs

CAMP HAPPY TAILS NYC INC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.  We are a FOSTER HOME/SANCTUARY for RESCUED puppies and dogs. We give every pup/dog their best life daily until a just right forever family is found.  To date, CAMP HAPPY TAILS NYC INC has fostered over 325  dogs – from bottle feeding puppies to dogs that have been severely abused or injured and require intense healing.

Through love, compassion and caring, CAMP HAPPY TAILS NYC INC creates a safe, clean sanctuary for rescued dogs and pups to heal and grow physically, mentally and emotionally, where they are properly cared for and socialized. All this is in preparation for adoption.

Our History

In 2014 I read a story about how they euthanized a pregnant mama dog in a kill shelter.  All her instincts drive her to protect her unborn pups but she is terrified and helpless as they drag her down the hallway, put her in a room, hold her down and heart stick her.  A heart stick is a syringe with a huge needle that they drive through her chest wall, which is highly innervated, causing her great pain.  Then they inject the sodium pentathol into her heart, which burns inside her.  They don’t give her any sedatives, tranquilizers, or anesthetic to help her deal with any of this.

She dies a horrific, barbaric, painful death, knowing she could not protect her babies.

No longer getting what they need to survive, the pups writhe around inside her and die off one by one.  Mama and babies are discarded like yesterday’s trash.

This had me emotionally crushed.  I decided I had get up and do something because if I wasn’t part of the solution, I was part of the problem.

I started volunteering for a rescue doing home visits, transports and walking dogs sitting in vets offices and boarding facilities.

In August of 2014 Charlie became my first foster.  After his adoption, there was another and another, and more and more dogs of various breeds, ages, sizes and abilities.  We soon evolved into what we now call CAMP HAPPY TAILS NYC INC.
