ADOPT A DOG

Save A Life

Adopting vs. buying

When you rescue a dog as opposed to buying one from a pet store or a breeder, you’re doing a lot more.

1) You’re saving a life.

2) Based on the tenet of hybrid vigor, a mixed-breed dog is likely to live longer and cost less in vet bills than a pure breed. Not to mention it has a significantly reduced chance of developing hip dysplasia, and enlarged heart, breathing disorders and other issues that come from inbreeding.

3) When you buy a dog from a pet store, once you walk out of the store, you are on your own. The majority of pet stores and breeders don’t provide any support if you have additional questions or encounter problems. When you adopt a rescued dog that has been fostered, the organization has a history with the dog, including insight into its personality and habits, which they are happy to share to ensure you continue to have a positive experience.

4) You have the ability to adopt an older dog, which may be better suited for individuals who do not want to spend the quality time it takes to properly train a puppy. An older dog can be just as loving and loyal as a new pup.

5) You can often find a dog that has already been trained. Maybe you’d love to have a dog, but lead a busy life and don’t necessarily have the time or experience to train your new companion. A trained dog already already knows simple commands and is housebroken.

6) Adopting a dog costs a lot less than buying one from a breeder. There are still adoption costs involved due to spaying/neutering, Distemper and Rabies vaccinations,  a Heartworm test, Flea& tick treatments, Microchip placement and so on, but it’s nowhere near the cost of buying from a breeder.

7) You have the ability to observe the dog interacting with other dogs and people at Camp Happy Tails. This will tell you a lot about their disposition, how they react to different stimuli and their overall nature.

EDDIE MILO

Eddie Milo was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas on the day he was scheduled to be euthanized, then brought to Camp for foster.  Eddie was surrendered to that shelter with damaged vertebrae, compressed discs, nerve damage, and several BB pellets in his back.  In the hopes of Eddie Milo walking again, he did a few months of intensive rehab therapy at Water4Dogs in NYC.  Eddie Milo gained back some strength, muscle balance, and proprioception.  Although he will never walk-again, he can now stand for short periods of time and take some spinal walking steps on his own!

Despite his disability, with the aid of the amazing our Camp counselors, Eddie Milo is healthy, happy, and lives his best life daily – he does everything that the rest of the campers do as if he had no disability at all!  He continues to go to Water4Dogs on a weekly basis where he receives dry and water therapies to prevent muscle atrophy and keep him strong and balanced.  He is also VERY handsome and a favorite wherever he goes!

Please help us keep Eddie Milo in his weekly rehab therapy sessions by donating towards his medical and rehab expenses!  Due to Eddie’s injuries, Eddie Milo needs to be expressed nine times a day to prevent bladder infections.  To prevent him from having bowel movements in the house, Eddie needs to be stimulated to have bowel movements outside before he comes back inside.  Eddie Milo would do best in a home that is spacious enough for him to get around in his wheels and have a family member who is strong enough to carry him up and down the stairs with a sling.  Eddie also needs to be with a family that is home a majority of the day to monitor his well-being and take care of his many needs.

BLONDIE

Meet Blondie, a remarkable 9-year-old senior camper who has triumphed over breast cancer. This resilient and beautiful soul is in search of her perfect forever family.

When Blondie first arrived at Camp in 2020, she carried some extra weight. Recognizing the importance of her health, we immediately placed her on a strict diet to help her shed those pounds. During her initial veterinary examination, we discovered that Blondie had been battling five mammary tumors. Determined to provide every camper with unconditional care, we embarked on a comprehensive treatment plan for Blondie.

With the support of our incredible CHT NYC community, Blondie underwent spay surgery, costly mastectomies, and extensive testing to ensure her successful recovery. Through unwavering love, meticulous care, and the generosity of our supporters, Blondie has emerged victorious, free from cancer and 20 pounds lighter!

Blondie delights in simple pleasures that life has to offer. She enjoys cooling off in the pool, engaging with stuffed squeaky toys, basking in the warm embrace of the sun, and savoring her meals. Her resilience and zest for life are truly inspiring.

To ensure Blondie’s well-being and happiness, her ideal family would consist of no dogs, no young children, and no cats. We believe she deserves a peaceful and serene environment where she can flourish and receive the undivided attention she deserves.

If you or someone you know is ready to open their hearts and homes to this extraordinary survivor, we invite you to email us at camphappytailsnyc@gmail.com for an adoption application. Together, let’s give Blondie the loving family and forever home she truly deserves.

BRUNO

Bruno, the adorable 2-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog/Poodle mix, may be a stunning combination of two remarkable breeds, but he comes with a touch of mischievousness and a heap of charm.

This energetic and playful pup is seeking a responsible owner who understands the needs of an anxious and excitable companion with a bite history. Bruno’s obedience issues make him a perfect match for an experienced individual or family (no children under 16 years of age) who is dedicated to investing in his ongoing training with Angel’s K9 Services, and nurturing his unique personality.
Bruno is looking for a family who will prevent him from making poor choices by establishing strict limits, rules and boundaries, ensuring that his obedience skills are honed and his attention is focused.

With a captivating blend of intelligence, loyalty, and a whole lot of love, Bruno promises to be a loyal and devoted furry friend. Bruno’s infectious enthusiasm for life is matched only by his boundless energy. He’ll thrive in an environment where daily exercise, training and mental stimulation are part of his routine. Whether it’s long hikes through scenic trails, going for a run, or engaging play sessions, this playful pup will keep you on your toes and bring endless joy to your days.

If you’re up for the challenge of nurturing and shaping Bruno into a well-rounded and obedient companion, he’ll reward you with a lifetime of unconditional love.
